  9. Analytics are the cornerstone to any successful web presence and the foundation of any marketing efforts. Site owners must understand the origins of organic and paid traffic as well as the behaviors of visitors once on the site. Using this information to adjust content, move elements, improve intra-site linking, and build new pages, site owners can increase traffic and conversions.

    I think Google Analytics is a wonderful service, for the price. The only pitfall I’ve found in my experience is that it is based on Javascript. The result is that it cannot account for spiders, so it’s difficult to assess how frequently other search engines are crawing the site.
