Blinkx and Ixquick Merge with Goal.com
I have just finished reading a small article regarding the Blinkx/Ixquick/Goal.com merger, and I have to say, I am a little intrigued.
Aside from Youtube, Blinkx is making some moves in the industry to start making some serious advancements within the video sharing industry. Today, Blinkx has indexed more than 12,000,000 hours of audio; video, viral and TV content, and made it fully searchable and available on demand.
Blinkx is based in London and San Francisco. Ixquick, a search engine funded in New York, is owned by Dutch company Surfboard Holding BV. Ixquick achieved some notoriety as a search engine that deletes identification information about its users within 48 hours of their search.
The deal between these two companies, let users on the Ixquick search page, search videos compiled and indexed by Blinkx.
But that’s not all…Goal.com has now emerged into the picture now.
Goal.com, launched in 2006, is a website designed for the English Football fanatics, or as us Americans call it, Soccer. From “Live Scores†to “Breaking News,†Goal.com is the “All-You-Need†for your Football needs. It is not just a website; it’s a community as well. In short, the two companies have agreed to work together with Blinkx powering the video search at Goal.com.
“We’re delighted to be powering video from Goal.com,†said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CEO of Blinkx. “Now soccer fans will be able to watch their favorite players, matches, or moments, while catching up on the latest football news or participating in community forums.â€
“Through our partnership with blinkx we’re brining our users the best rich media experience on the web,†said Chicco Merighi, President of Goal.com. “Blinkx’s extensive index of soccer video enables us to deliver exciting, relevant footage alongside out news and community features.â€
What does Blinkx brings to the table:
- Access to its index of over 14 million hours of audio and video.
- Brings its video search technology into Goal.com’s interactive website.
- Brings its video wall feature.
- Delivers relevant videos to accompany the thousands of text articles available to the users of Goal.com.
I personally am looking forward to seeing how this partnership plays out. Like I seem to say at the end of all my posts…we shall see.
