Today I read on techcrunch and also webpronews.com that one of my favorite social bookmarking sites newsvine.com has been bought out by a much larger company, MSNBC.

WebProNews puts together a lot of resources to cover this acquisition and be sure to check out the newsvine blog about this acquisition.

In my opinion if the acquisition budget for MSNBC is true and the budget was between 5-7 million which I think is on the low end, MSNBC is making an interesting move to get more social with their news and to saturate their branding even further into the online community.

However, newsvine has a very dedicated userbase with people who are literally seeding stories all day and are not getting paid to do this. Newsvine has incentivized people with badges and special moderator privelages but the people who are truely helping to mold and build this community should get a piece of the pie.

Members like Aine Macdermot are avid contributors and have dedicate a lot of time and effort into their submissions and moderations. Just a thought.

Something I am looking forward to with newsvine is the growth in its member base with the merger of MSNBC and more up to date news submissions and photos.

Look out first quarter of 08!! Here comes newsvine!
