New developments in social media recently have been made by 97th floor. In collaboration with Cameron Olthuis and modern blue design. This tool was designed with intentions to help social marketers find stories that have not been submitted to social sites yet in order to be the first to submit them. Also there are some other benefits of the tool like being able to see how many votes a certain story has across 4 major networks.

I had a chance to talk briefly with Chris from 97th floor. He shed some light into some future tools and some information about the new social media for firefox. Get social media for firefox here. 

HybridSEM: what was your inspiration for creating this plugin?

Chris: I hated being excited about a good piece of content, taking 10 minutes to write a perfectly structured Title and Description, only to find out it had already been submitted to social sites that is how I initially got the idea, then it evolved from there

HybridSEM: Can we expect more tools soon?

Chris: yeah we are hoping to launch one that will be ten times sweeter and shouldn’t create any backlash in the social media world, in october

HybridSEM: besides the tool allowing users to see if pages have already been submitted.. From an SMM perspective, what else can we use this toolbar for?

Chris: Really it can be used for that purpose but in different ways,

1.) To check a story you are one, to either see the submission status to save you time in submitting or just to see how popular it is across the board.

2.) Scanning social sites is what I think is one of the coolest features. To be able to scan the Digg or Reddit pages and see the popularity status of the article withouth clicking through to it is pretty awesome.

Which can be used again for submission status in case you want to find popular content to submit at a different social site, or for marketing research.
