How to Add a Drop Shadow to Text in Photoshop.

A drop shadow is a nice effect to give text a three dimentional look and feel instead of the plain flat boring appearance. This is fast and easy to do.

1. Open a new document (press Ctrl +N) and make the new document a width of 500 pixels and a height of 200 pixels.

2. Select the Text tool (make sure it’s the horizontal text tool), then type your text. In this example lets use the word “Shadow” at 100 pt Arial font.

3. Now on the Layers tab select Rasterize and Type.

4. Next, go to the Layer tab and select Layer Style and Drop Shadow.

5. This will bring up the Layer Style dialog box with the Drop Shadow pre selected. You can play around with the different options to make your shadow suit your visual desires. You can change the shadow color, angle, size, and more. Once you are happy with the way your shadow looks click OK.

  11. You don’t need to rasterize the type to apply styles. This leaves your type editable and you can stack other effects on top of the shadow as well.
