For this third installment of ‘How to Improve Your Quality Score’ I am going to cover a small but very significant element; the adoption of Sponsored Links on your websites and landing pages.
You rarely come across a site today that doesn’t have some sort of monetization in the form of sponsored links, that’s if the site isn’t entirely advertising (arbitrage) or an affiliate site. Regardless, Google is very particular about where and when these links should be located.
The biggest oversight of most webmasters is they simply don’t distinguish sponsored links from the rest of their content. Google is very adamant about this rule. They want them labeled people! This contributes to the quality of the site in that users can know what is advertising and what isn’t. Again, going back to Google’s overall message, and I am afraid I am going to beat it the death again in this post…. all together now, build a site for the good of the user, not for the search engines.
In addition, if you are pointing your adwords directly to a landing page that consists of mainly ads or general search results, such as a directory or a catelogue page, be sure to provide additional, valuable content. Elaborate on what the user read in your ad, for example, incorporate more product information, comparisons and reviews.
As I mentioned above, a small one but an important one. So, if you have sponsored links on your website that are not labeled, this could be your quick fix and if you are offering directory pages or run an affiliate website, adding additional content could be your longterm fix. Either way, it’s not exactly going to hurt is it…
