If you are reading this article, I am assuming you are either a victim of this last Google slap and need help, or you are researching your own article on Quality Score and are going to knick a few tips….. Either way you’ve come to the right place, I have information to share.
So, you’re a victim of Google’s last Quality Score update, no time to wallow and wonder “Why me?”, it’s nothing personal, but it is also not something you should ignore. This article is part one of a five part series outlining what steps you need to take to combat any Quality Score penalties. Specifically this series will elaborate on the following:
- Authenticating your site by opening sharing information about your business
- Developing easy navigation
- Sponsored link do’s and don’ts
- Providing unique and valuable content
- Why conversion tracking is essential
Although Google pioneered the ‘Quality Score’ (among other things….. like the wheel and sliced bread), it is worth mentioning that all of the big 3, including Yahoo Search Marketing and Microsoft AdCenter, will be or are already employing a similar quality control. So, if for a split second you are considering jumping ship, why not let this realisation marry you to Adwords. Or, you could always remind yourself that Google accounted for 50% of all US searches in April. Don’t want to miss out on the that action!
OK, here we go, pens and pencils ready: First and foremost, authenticate your website by openly sharing information about your business. I am not going to sugar coat this here; if you don’t have the following information on your website, ADD IT! (Or variations of it)
1. About Us
2. Contact Us
3. Privacy Policy
4. Terms and Conditions
5. Site Map
These additions are extremely important. Don’t bother spending time making any other changes first, such as adding content, link building, and the like, You Must Do This!Google is very much ‘for the good of the user’, which really isn’t the worst philosophy in the world. Therefore, they are great advocates of legitimate websites. Those that are valuable to the user are those that keep them coming back. Proving that you are one of these sites is GOLD! In Google’s eyes, these additions are your midas touch…. ’nuff said.

Awsome post Cheryl!!!
I just had a long talk with our google dedicated account rep about three days ago about this very topic. I was seriously concerned about monitoring the ads quality score as this is a crucial step to be aware of when running hundreds of words in google adwords.
You rock!!!

I suppose it does make sense, google always barks on about user friendly, content and not promoting for the good of SE’s, I have never put terms and conditions or privacy policy on any of my sites. I’ll give it a go. Thanks

Good Post. It appears these days there’s no such thing as a landing page without the basics (about, t&c, privacy, etc.)

Thanks for your comments. And yes these 5 pages are quite frequently over looked by Adwords users. They are a fast way to authenticate your websites.
